What is the difference between Canadian visa and permit? Students-workers should understand its meaning.

Difference between visa and permit: Canada has emerged as the first choice among Indians for jobs and studies. Despite strict visa rules, Indians are not yet disillusioned with Canada. Every year millions of Indians are moving to Canada. Like the rest of the world, a visa is required to visit Canada. Indians also get entry into Canada through visa only. However, some Indians are also given permits.
Now the question arises that what is the difference between visa and permit. If you are also planning to visit, work or study in Canada, then it is very important for you to understand the difference between visa and permit. Both of these are different types of documents, which provide different facilities and responsibilities.

What is Canada visa?

Visas are issued by the Government of Canada. This allows you to enter Canada or go through a Canadian airport. This is a sticker on your passport that contains your name, date of birth, purpose of your visit (work, study, or travel) and date of issue and expiration. A visa does not give you the right to work or study in Canada. This gives you legal entry into Canada. Even though it is called a worker or student visa, it does not allow you to work or study.

When should one apply for visa?

People from countries that require a visa are required to obtain a visa before coming to Canada. Visas can usually be obtained through a Canadian Embassy or Visa Application Center (VAC). In case of not having a visa, you may face difficulty in boarding a flight to Canada or you may even be stopped. If your visa expires upon reaching Canada, you can apply for it afresh in Canada itself.

What is a permit?

Permit is a different type of document. This tells you what kind of work or study you are allowed to do in Canada. Any kind of restrictions or conditions imposed are also written in it. Unlike a visa, a permit allows you to work or study directly. You have to show this to the company or educational institution. However, having a permit alone does not entitle you to entry or re-entry into Canada. This requires a visa.
