What is the criteria for including tableau in the Republic Day parade? Know in details

New Delhi : Preparations for the Republic Day parade on New Year have started. However, this year again Delhi’s tableau will not be seen in the Republic Day parade. Delhi government’s tableau proposal has been rejected by the Centre. The political fight between the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP over this matter has already intensified. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has launched a vendetta against his/her party at the Center for not including the tableau of the national capital in the Republic Day parade. Is accused of doing. In such a situation, the question arises that on what basis tableaux are included in the Republic Day parade.

What is tableau?

Tableau refers to a group of models or static figures that represent a scene from a story or history. On Republic Day, states and various departments and ministries showcase their achievements in the form of state-of-the-art technology and equipment, or their history and culture in their respective tableaux. These tableaux are shown during the Republic Day parade.

What is the selection process?

Tableau proposals come from States/Union Territories and Ministries/Departments and various organizations. These proposals are evaluated in a series of meetings of an expert committee composed of eminent persons in the field of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography etc. The Ministry of Culture constitutes this committee.

In the first stage of selection, the sketch/design of the proposals is examined and if considered necessary, suggestions are given for making amendments in the sketch/design. Once the sketch/design is approved by the committee, the participants are asked to come up with three-dimensional models of their proposals. The models are then examined by a committee for final selection based on various considerations.

If you are absent from the meeting…

The participants are given sufficient time to make arrangements to attend the Expert Committee meetings. Non-attendance at any meeting means withdrawal and the concerned unit/participant will not be invited to subsequent meetings. All expenses for attending meetings are borne by the participants.

All interactions with the Committee members will be done by the official representative of the participating State/UT/Ministry/Department/Organization. Artists/Designers etc. may accompany the official representative to take note of the suggestions given by the committee for making amendments in their respective sketches/designs/models. However, they do not interact directly with Expert Committee members unless they are specifically authorized to do so by the Committee to explain a specific point.

Many factors in selection

Selection of Tableau depends on a combination of many factors. These include, but are not limited to, visual appeal, impact on the public, idea/theme of the tableau, degree of details included in the tableau, music accompanying the tableau, local artistes used, etc. The selection process usually lasts for six to seven rounds of meetings on different days with some eliminations and short listings at each stage. Mere advancement from one stage to another does not entitle any participating State/Union Territory/Ministry/Department/Organization to proceed to the next stage or final selection until the same is confirmed.

The tableau is approved only after being successful in all the stages. If the panel is not satisfied with the issue related to the tableau at any stage then the proposal is rejected.
