What is the Akashteer project, which is strengthening India’s air defense network and will get rid of the enemies?

New Delhi: In various wars going on in the world, air defense has proved to be the most important role in protecting from enemy attacks. Work is also being done continuously to strengthen India’s air defense system. The Akashteer project will speed up the response to any air attack.

What is Akashteer Project?

All air defense sensors have been integrated under the Akashteer project. The radars of the Air Defense of the Army and the medium and high power radars of the Air Force will all be integrated and give a complete picture. This is an important step towards strengthening the air defense network to counter air threats. It gives a complete picture of the air space of the entire country. It will also show the complete picture to a military unit deployed at any place, in any geographical condition, in any weather or on any border.

Before Akashteer, the operator observes and analyzes the picture shown on any radar and feeds it. he/she is not able to get information about the air space of different places. Different pictures are available from the radars of Army and Air Force. Due to which the reaction time increases in case of any enemy air attack. Because any action has to be taken only after seeing the entire picture and then coordinating.

What is the benefit of Akashteer?

Now the system itself will analyze the pictures received from all the radars and show the complete picture, that too in real time. Due to which there will be no delay at all in taking the decision. Due to this, coordination and situational awareness is increasing, that is, we will know what is happening on which front. It will immediately identify the object flying in the air whether it is friend or foe. By getting the picture of the entire air space together, the flight of your aircraft will not have to be stopped for long for caution, and it will also take minimum time to bring down the manned or unmanned aerial platform coming from the enemy side. Now even if there are less weapon systems and more enemy objects, they can be killed easily. Earlier, decisions had to be taken jointly at many different levels, but now people present on the ground can take decisions immediately. It will also prevent incidents of friendly fire (shooting down one’s own ship).

Where was the system installed?

The army needs a total of 455 such systems. 107 systems have been delivered so far. In this, the Northern Border i.e. China Border has been completely covered. For the Western Border also, 105 more systems will be available by March 2025. After which all the systems will be available for the remaining units by March 2027.

Will be able to deal with swarm drones also

Armies around the world are working on swarm drones. A swarm of drones together can attack anyone. Every second is important in air defence. A delay of even a second can change the entire game. In such a situation, the enemy may become dominant in the situation of taking a decision after seeing several pictures. But when the picture of the entire air space is clear as to where and what objects are there, then immediate action can be taken to foil the attack. Air warfare around the world is becoming so complex that it is no longer possible to do air defense without automation. When real time picture is available, counter action will be easy and effective.
