New Delhi: What all can a man be in his/her life? Believe it or not, but Benjamin Franklin, the founder of America, is called an American printer, publisher, writer, inventor, scientist and diplomat. A person who was one of the founding fathers of America. Who represented America in France during the American Revolution. A personality who signed the Declaration of Independence of America. Not only this, he/she wrote such a constitution for the American people, which is still an example for the whole world including India. Recently, while granting bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case related to the liquor scam, Judge Nyay Bindu mentioned Benjamin Franklin, one of the founders of America. Let us understand who Franklin was and why his/her words still resonate in Indian courts.

Franklin was the 10th child out of 17 children

Born in Boston, America, Franklin was the 10th child among 17 children of his/her parents. his/her father used to sell soap and candles then. Franklin played an important role in drafting the 1783 Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War. he/she drafted the Constitution for America, giving importance to human rights.

Where did the principle of 100 guilty vs 1 innocent come from?

Blackstone Ratio Theory is applicable in criminal laws. Even before Franklin, a judge and jurist of England, William Blackstone, had given this theory that even if 10 guilty persons are let off, not even one innocent should be punished. After some time, Franklin changed this statement from 10 to 100. he/she said- Even if 100 guilty persons are let off, no innocent should be punished. On this basis, the British soldiers who committed the massacre in Boston were saved from punishment. This theory was much discussed in the last decades of the 18th century. This theory is now often used as a precedent in courts in the 21st century. This has been adopted in India as well.

Electricity was discovered from kites, and the first theory of light was given

Franklin discovered the science of electricity. Later Michael Faraday invented electricity on this basis. Franklin had discovered electricity in 1752. he/she flew a kite and tied a key to a metal thread in it. When the key was rubbed with the high speed of wind, a spark came out, which was the first step towards the invention of electricity.

Protected homes from damage caused by lightning

Franklin’s experiment showed that if a metal piece is placed at a high point of a building and connected to a conductor, then when lightning strikes the metal piece, the conductor connected to it will conduct the lightning away from the building and into the ground. Using this understanding, wooden houses and buildings were saved from damage caused by lightning. Today, thousands of lives are saved all over the world by using this principle.
