What is FMGE Test, why do students who do MBBS from abroad have to take this exam?

Fmge exam: Studying MBBS from abroad is much more popular among Indian students. Every year thousands of Indian students go to countries like China, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan. The main reason for this is that after giving NEET UG exam in India, admission is available in medical colleges. Every year 25 lakh students give exams for NEET exam, but due to lack of seats in government and private medical colleges, many students are not able to get admission.
MBBS has about one lakh seats in government and private medical colleges. Fees in government colleges are economical, but many students turn abroad due to expensive fees in private institutions. In some countries of the world, the cost of medical education is much lower than in private colleges in India. Because of this, Indian students go abroad to become doctors. However, on returning, they also have to take an exam for practice in India. Let’s know about it.

What is FMGE exam and why is it necessary?

Students returning from abroad after medical studies have to give ‘Foreign Medical Graduate Exam’ (FMGE) for practice in India. This is a kind of medical licensing exam. The National Board of Examination (NBE) has the responsibility of conducting FMGE exam. This medical licensing exam is mandatory for all Indian citizens or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) who have studied MBBS outside India and now they want a license for practice through the National Medical Commission (NMC).

However, Indian students who have MBBS degrees from Australia, Canada, Britain, America and New Zealand do not need to appear in this exam. They can do medical practice in India without any test. The National Board of Examination (NBE) conducts exams twice a year. These exams take place in June and December. The registration fee for FMGE exam is Rs 6100. This exam is of 300 numbers and includes 300 questions. A total of 50 cities of India are conducted in FMGE examination.
