West Indies lost in a nail-biting match, out of T20 World Cup, dream shattered


New Delhi. The journey of host West Indies in ICC T20 World Cup has ended. The Windies team, which played its last match of Super 8 on Monday, lost a very close match against South Africa. After losing the toss, the West Indies team, which came to bat, scored 136 runs for 8 wickets, thanks to Roston Chase’s fifty. Due to rain, it was revised to 123 runs in 17 overs. South Africa won by 3 wickets in the last over.

The West Indies team was considered a strong contender to win the ICC T20 World Cup this time. In the first round of the tournament, this team won all its four matches and topped the group to make it to the Super 8. The team, which reached here after defeating teams like Afghanistan and New Zealand, had its journey end even before the semi-finals. First it lost to England and now South Africa showed it the way out.

When West Indies scored 136 runs in the last match of Super 8 against South Africa, it was believed that the match was one-sided. The team which flopped in batting, did such a great job in bowling that at one point it seemed that its ticket to semi-finals was confirmed. Andre Russell increased the excitement of the match by taking two wickets at the score of 15 runs. Rain interrupted the match and the match was reduced from 20 to 17 overs. The new target was 123 runs, chasing which South Africa lost 7 wickets at 110 runs.

West Indies had completely taken control of the match and South Africa was once again going to be branded as chokers. Roston Chase, who showed his/her prowess in batting, had turned the match in West Indies’ favour by taking three wickets. In the last over, 5 runs were needed from 6 balls. Marco Jansen gave instant relief to the racing heartbeat of all the spectators by hitting a six on the first ball. The excitement of the match which reached the last over ended here and so did the visiting team’s journey in the T20 World Cup.
