New Delhi: After the crushing defeat of Congress in Haryana elections, many party leaders including Jairam Ramesh had called it unacceptable. he/she had also raised questions on the Election Commission. After this, the Election Commission wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday. It said that the statements of Congress leaders were never heard in the democratic system. After this meeting held on Wednesday evening, Congress leaders said that we have presented our views before the Election Commission. he/she said that in the next 48 hours we will also present the remaining complaints before him/her. The Election Commission has assured us that it will respond to these.
After meeting the Election Commission, Congress leader Pawan Kheda said that today KC Venugopal, Ashok Gehlot, Ajay Maken, Jairam Ramesh, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and other party leaders met the Election Commission officials. We informed the Election Commission about everything. Out of about 20 complaints that came to us, in 7 written complaints there were such machines which were showing 99 percent on the day of voting. Other normal machines were showing 60-70 percent. We informed this to the Election Commission.

Pawan Kheda further said that we have demanded that those machines should be sealed and kept safe till the investigation is completed. We also told the Election Commission that we will present the remaining complaints to them in the next 48 hours. The Election Commission has assured us that they will respond. Former Haryana CM and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the results of Haryana are shocking because everyone felt that Congress was going to form the government.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda further said that this was the case in all the survey reports but what happened was that when the counting of postal ballots started, Congress was leading everywhere. However, when the counting of EVMs started, Congress was lagging behind. We have received many complaints. Counting of votes was delayed at many places. The Election Commission has assured us that they will look into all the complaints.

Earlier, the Election Commission raised questions on the statements of Congress leaders calling the Haryana election results unacceptable. The Commission said that such statements were not heard before in the rich democratic history of the country. These go beyond the legality of freedom of speech. In a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the commission said such comments by party leaders Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Kheda lead to an undemocratic rejection of the will of the people expressed as per the statutory and regulatory electoral framework.

The commission said it has also taken note of the statements of Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, in which Haryana’s results have been described as ‘unexpected’. The Election Commission said in its letter that such statements amount to denial of public opinion. The Commission also said that elections in the entire country including Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are conducted according to the same rules and regulations. In the same letter, the Election Commission gave time to the 12-member Congress delegation to meet. Congress leaders have also given their complaints to the Commission, on which the Election Commission has promised to respond.
