The government will also call a joint meeting of both Houses of Parliament on November 26 to mark the 75th anniversary of the Constitution. During this session, the government can also introduce the ‘One Nation One Election’ Bill and the Waqf Amendment Bill.What will happen in the winter session?
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that on the recommendation of the Government of India, the President has approved the proposal to convene the winter session of both the Houses of Parliament from November 25 to December 20, 2024. The next day on November 26, the government will hold a joint meeting of both Houses of Parliament to mark the 75th anniversary of the Constitution. The minister said the special joint meeting will be held in the Central Hall of the Constituent Assembly (Old Parliament House), where the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution in 1949.

One country one election bill also under consideration
The Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950. Constitution Day was originally celebrated as National Law Day, before the BJP government changed its name to Constitution Day in 2015 to honor the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar. During the session, the government may also introduce the ‘One Nation One Election’ Bill and the Waqf Amendment Bill, which is currently under review by the JPC. Recently, PM Modi had indicated that the government is working towards ‘One Nation One Election’, which will bring simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

Kirel Rijiju said that we are now working towards ‘One Nation One Election’, which will strengthen India’s democracy, optimize India’s resources and give new momentum to the country in achieving the dream of a developed India. Since the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the NDA and INDIA factions have been actively competing to establish themselves as the real “protectors and nurturers” of the Constitution. The Congress-led INDIA faction has been accusing the BJP-led alliance of allegedly undermining the Constitution and constitutional principles, while the BJP and its allies have tried to reverse the situation. In July this year, the government officially designated June 25 as ‘Constitution Killing Day’ to commemorate the period of Emergency.
