The Meteorological Department had predicted that a western disturbance will show its effect from Saturday, due to which there is a possibility of getting relief soon in the form of very little rain or thunderstorm.

How was the weather in Delhi today?

Let us tell you that most areas of Delhi have been in the grip of severe heat for the last seven days. On Friday, Safdarjung, the city’s base station, experienced heatwaves for the sixth consecutive day, equalling the record of May 2013. The station had recorded its second highest temperature this year and ever at 46.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Earlier this week, the automatic weather station at Mungeshpur had recorded a temperature of 52.9 degrees Celsius, which the IMD attributed to a sensor error. A day earlier, the same area had recorded a temperature of 49.9 degrees Celsius. Experts have attributed the persistent heat in some areas of outer Delhi to open areas and hot winds blowing from Rajasthan.

Relief from heat wave in Rajasthan too

Rajasthan, which has been facing severe heat for many days, is expected to get relief from the heat wave in the coming two-three days. A spokesperson of the Meteorological Department informed that due to the effect of a new western disturbance, there is a possibility of partly cloudy weather in some parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions during the next 48 hours and sudden strong winds at the speed of 40-50 km per hour with thunder in the afternoon and light to moderate rain. It said that in most of the remaining areas, the weather will remain generally dry in the coming days. Due to this, the maximum temperature is likely to fall by two to three degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours and the temperature is likely to remain below 45 degrees Celsius in most parts.

Effect of monsoon in Kerala

Two days after the early onset of the southwest monsoon in Kerala, heavy rains lashed many parts of the state, leading to landslides, uprooting of trees and waterlogging. Heavy rains have been lashing parts of Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam since Friday night. Landslides and uprooting of trees were reported in Poochpara and Kolappara areas in the interiors of the hill district of Idukki last night. Locals said some houses and vehicles were damaged in the landslides but no casualties were reported. Traffic restrictions have been imposed on the Thodupuzha-Puliyanamala state highway due to the potential threat of landslides. District officials have advised people living on the banks of the Thodupuzha and Muvattupuzha rivers to exercise caution after five gates of the Malankara dam were opened in Idukki.
