Weather Update: Delhiites shivered due to rain, snowfall in the mountains, know the weather condition across the country.

New Delhi: The weather patterns have changed in many states across the country including the capital Delhi. After the drizzle on Monday, the chill increased in many areas of North India. It remained cloudy throughout the day in Delhi-NCR. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain on Tuesday also. At the same time, due to snowfall in the hilly areas, the temperature has reduced, its effect is also visible in the plains.

Rain increases chill in Delhi

There was drizzle and fog in Delhi on Monday morning and the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below the average temperature of this season. IMD has predicted cloudy sky and light rain on Tuesday and the maximum temperature is expected to be 19 and the minimum temperature will be 9 degree Celsius. Even though rain was seen in Delhi, it did not affect pollution. The air in Delhi still remains at a very poor level.

Meteorological Department issued yellow alert

After the rain on Monday, biting cold was felt in Delhi-NCR. After the rain, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert and has predicted fog and drizzle with lightning this week. According to IMD, there will be fog in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday. An alert has been issued regarding fog and rain. This alert is till 27th December.

Water pipeline frozen in Jammu and Kashmir

The Meteorological Department in Jammu and Kashmir has asked tourists to follow the advisory issued by the traffic police in view of sub-zero temperatures and icy conditions on roads in important high altitude areas in the Kashmir Valley. Severe cold wave conditions prevailed in the valley, leading to freezing of water supply pipelines, while a thin layer of ice formed on the surface of many reservoirs. The Meteorological Department has predicted a drop of two to three degrees in the minimum temperature in the next 48 hours.

30 roads closed due to snowfall in Himachal

Himachal capital Shimla received its second light snowfall of the season on Monday, while some other parts of the state received intermittent rain and snowfall. Snowfall also occurred in nearby tourist places of Kufri and Narkanda and higher reaches of Kharapathar, Chaudhar and Chanshal South Portal of Atal Tunnel and Samdho. Shimla recorded eight cm snowfall, while Kalpa received seven cm snowfall. The Meteorological Department said that intermittent light rain occurred in some areas of the lower hilly areas of Himachal. The State Emergency Operations Center said 30 roads were closed due to snowfall. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall in the central and higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Snowfall in mountainous areas in Uttarakhand

Snowfall has started in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. On Monday, Niti valley of Chamoli district was covered with a sheet of white snow. Here the mercury reached below minus 5 degrees. The effect of cold wave is being seen in most of the districts of the state. Intermittent rain continues in many areas. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy snowfall tonight.

Weather will change across the country

According to the Meteorological Department, this week will change the weather across the country. There will be snowfall in parts of the Himalayas, while rain and strong winds will increase the chill in North India. There is a possibility of hailstorm with strong winds on December 27 in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. Severe cold wave alert has been issued in some areas of Himachal Pradesh till December 26.

Cold wave alert has been issued in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad from 24 to 26 December and in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh till 25 December. On December 24, there will be dense fog in the morning in some parts of Uttar Pradesh. There will be dense fog in Himachal Pradesh between 24 and 27 December, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till 26 December. Frosty conditions will prevail in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana on 25 and 26 December.
