We will learn to love each other in college! Troubled by declining population, China’s emphasis on ‘love education’

China University of Love Education: The birth rate in China is falling at a very fast pace, due to which the government is in tension. The Chinese government has taken a special measure to deal with the falling birth rate. The government is requesting the universities to provide ‘Love Education’ studies in their universities. Its objective is to develop positive attitudes among the youth towards marriage, love, having children and family. In a way the government wants people to love each other and get married.
This initiative is being started by the government at a time when the country’s population has been declining for the second consecutive year. People in China are aging rapidly, which poses a threat of increasing pressure on the country’s resources. Not only this, but there is no interest in marriage among the people, due to which fewer children are being born. In such a situation, its effect is also visible on the economy, because the number of working people is decreasing and on the contrary, the number of elderly people is increasing.

Chinese youth do not want to marry and have children

Actually, the population of China is about 140 crores. In this way it is the second most populous country in the world. But now the population here is aging rapidly. The government says that attitudes toward relationships, marriage and family have changed among college-going students. The government believes that college students can have more children in the future, but the change in opinions could be dangerous for the future.

Jiangsu Xinhua Newspaper Group cited China Population News, an official publication, as saying that many young people are now hesitant to form romantic relationships. It said, “College-universities should take the responsibility of teaching students about marriage and love by providing marriage and love education courses.” The aim of this initiative is to create a better cultural environment towards marriage and childbearing.

Youth kept distance from romantic relationships

A recent survey revealed that approximately 57% of college students do not want to get into romantic relationships. he/she says that due to this, challenges arise in balancing studies and personal life. Due to lack of knowledge about emotional relationships, many students do not have a proper understanding of love and marriage. To deal with these challenges, the State Council has called on local governments to allocate resources to prevent population decline.

Besides, it has also been said to promote respect for marriage and childbearing at the right age. However, experts say that they doubt whether it will have an impact on the youth or not. Junior college students will be taught about national population issues and contemporary concepts of marriage and childbearing, Reuters reports. Senior and graduation students will be given case studies and group discussions on marriage and population.
