‘We will be satisfied only when…’ Look at America’s love for India’s most wanted terrorist Pannu.

New Delhi : America’s love for India’s most wanted terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu case is continuously increasing. Days after US officials announced charges against former Indian government official Vikas Yadav for his/her alleged involvement in a murder conspiracy, the US has now taken a step forward. US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti had an exclusive conversation with our associate newspaper Times of India.

Enemy or friend…no compromise

In the interview, the US Ambassador said that US officials are satisfied with the progress in India’s investigation in the case, but the US will be satisfied only when accountability is achieved. he/she said the US wants the culprits to be held accountable, not just assurances that the crime will not be repeated in the future. Garcetti said the United States cannot compromise on criminal activity in any way, whether by an enemy or a close friend. he/she did not comment on whether the US would seek to extradite Yadav, as he/she said extradition could only happen after he/she is arrested.

The United States cannot compromise on criminal activity in any way, whether by an enemy or a close friend. No matter who they are or what they say, it must be determined that murder for hire is illegal, as it is in every country.

India and America have a lot at stake

The US Ambassador also said that not resolving this issue properly could put a lot at stake for India and America. Asked about the impunity given to Khalistan separatists in Canada and the threats they pose from American soil, Garcetti said the US takes real threats seriously. Citing strong anti-terrorism cooperation with India, he/she referred to the extradition case against Mumbai attacks accused Tahawwur Rana.

What does America want?

Garcetti said that we have said two things from the beginning. This kind of behavior from any country to another is unacceptable. Certainly, this is unacceptable to us as Americans. he/she said that it is a red line, which comes from the enemy or the closest friend. “It’s our first responsibility, no matter who they are or what they say, to make sure murder-for-hire is illegal, as it is in every country,” Garcetti said.

he/she said that second, we want accountability. Not only to say that this will not happen in the future, but that those who were involved will be held accountable. That’s what our prosecutors focus on. Our prosecutors are 100 percent apolitical. They have a different world of their own.

Satisfaction on investigation of the case

Expressing satisfaction with the work done so far by the Indian Commission of Inquiry, the Ambassador said the US expects India to hold criminal accountable anyone who breaks the law. Garcetti said, “We are very satisfied that the commission of inquiry was formed. On the recent visit of the Indian committee of inquiry to the US, the ambassador said that there were good, in-depth discussions in Washington, information was shared. We are very pleased with the Indian panel. Got good response.

he/she said that our law enforcement officers were happy with this. But ultimately, I think people in America will be satisfied only when there is accountability. Our prosecutors have produced evidence worthy of criminal charges and that evidence can and will be shared with the Indian investigative team. he/she said, I hope that the Indian system, like the American system, knows that conspiracy to commit murder is illegal and that people will be held accountable.

Stance on extradition of Vikas Yadav

Garcetti did not say whether US officials would seek Yadav’s extradition, but asked if the US expected India to arrest him/her. To this, Garcetti reiterated that American officials expect accountability. And it could potentially happen in more ways than one, he/she said. Without accountability, there will be no justice. I can’t speak about the criminal activities of this person in India, but prosecutors in the US clearly believe that he/she was involved in a criminal conspiracy in the US. When asked whether this issue could adversely affect India-US relations. The ambassador said there is too much at stake in our relationship, so we can’t get it right.
