We are part-timers in Parliament… Vice President Dhankhar got angry on which statement of Chidambaram

New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday attacked Congress leader P. Chidambaram over his/her comment that three new criminal laws were drafted by incompetent people, calling it unforgivable and urged him/her to withdraw this objectionable and defamatory statement. Dhankhar said that he/she was shocked to read Chidambaram’s interview in a national daily newspaper in the morning, in which he/she said that the new laws were drafted by incompetent people.

‘Knowledgeable people deliberately mislead you’
Addressing the 12th convocation of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), the Vice President said, “Are we incompetent people in Parliament? This is an insult to the wisdom of Parliament, for which there is no apology… I have no words to condemn such thinking and calling an MP incompetent. I appeal to him/her (Chidambaram) from this platform to please withdraw this objectionable, defamatory and reprehensible comment about Members of Parliament (MPs). I hope he/she will do so.” Dhankhar further said that when knowledgeable people deliberately mislead you, we need to be cautious.

Vice President targeted Chidambaram

The Vice President said that when I read the newspaper this morning, a knowledgeable person, who has been the Finance Minister of this country, has been a Member of Parliament for a long time and is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha, stunned me. Dhankhar said that he/she is proud that the Parliament has done a great job by freeing us from the colonial legacy and passing three laws with revolutionary dimensions. Rajya Sabha Chairman Dhankhar said that when the three laws – Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Defense Code and Indian Evidence Act – were being discussed in the House, every MP got an opportunity to contribute.
