In Ayurveda, a lot of attention is paid to the way of eating and drinking. What you are eating, when you are eating, how you are eating, what you are eating with what, all these things have a direct impact on health.

Some people remain weak or sick even after eating healthy food, this can also be because your food combination is not right. In Ayurveda, this is called Viruddha Aahar. This means that you are eating things together which should not be eaten.

Milk should not be eaten with fish as the two foods are opposites. Milk is cold and fish is hot. Mixing the two contaminates the blood and causes blockage in the body channels (called srotas). Salt and milk together is another combination that should be avoided due to opposing properties.

Do not mix equal quantities of honey and ghee as they have opposite reactions in the body—honey has a warming, drying, scraping effect, while ghee has a cooling, moisturizing property. When eating ghee and honey together, mix a greater quantity of one or the other.

When you do eat yogurts, eat them at lunch when your digestion is strongest. Yogurts can cause bloating and increase rakta (blood), pitta, and phlegm. Paneer can take a long time to digest and can cause constipation, so people with weak digestion should avoid eating cheese and yogurt in any season.
