During the last ten years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is clearly seen leading the world in the fight against climate change. Recently, on the occasion of Environment Day, the Prime Minister started the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. Today, every citizen of the country is feeling connected to this campaign and this campaign seems to be taking the form of a mass movement.

Simple Solution
Our government has shown its commitment towards the environment at all forums in India and abroad. At COP 26 in Glasgow, the Prime Minister presented the unique idea of Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE). India believes that climate action begins at the individual level and Prime Minister Modi has provided a simple solution to the complex problem of climate change.

the wildlife
Our government has focused on all aspects related to the environment, the results of which are now visible. Not only has the forest cover in the country increased significantly, but the number of tigers has also more than doubled during the last decade. Today, more than 75% of the world’s tigers live in India. The introduction of African cheetahs has also boosted India’s wildlife diversity. In 2023, a cheetah cub was born here after 70 years. This species had become extinct in the country.

Goal accomplished
While many countries have failed to meet their climate targets, India has achieved its targets well before the deadline. For example, the target of achieving 40% of installed power capacity from non-fossil sources was achieved 9 years ahead of the deadline. The target set for ethanol-blended petrol was also achieved five months ahead of the deadline.

Quality of Gangajal
The Namami Gange programme has successfully curbed pollution of this holy river and improved water quality has been recorded at numerous locations. This cause has been close to the heart of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as is evident from his/her decision to donate all the proceeds from the auction of gifts received by him/her to the Namami Gange programme.

Ujjwala Scheme
Due to Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, carbon dioxide emissions have also decreased and thousands of crores have been saved. In order to promote clean and renewable energy, India has also played a leading role in the formation of the International Solar Alliance.

improve your ranking
As a result of these efforts, our ranking has improved a lot at the global level. International organization German Watch believes that India’s Climate Change Performance Index ranking which was 30 in 2014, has now improved to 7th position in 2023.

One Earth, Many Efforts
Along with development, environmental protection has also been a part of the government’s policies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that our planet is one but our efforts must be many. One Earth, Many Efforts India is determined to support any effort for a better environment and global welfare.
