Waqf Amendment Bill: Round of parliamentary committee meetings will begin, committee will visit 5 states before submitting the report

New Delhi: The joint committee of Parliament considering the Waqf Amendment Bill has planned to hold several meetings and visit capitals of five states from next week as the deadline for submitting the report approaches. The joint committee, headed by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Jagdambika Pal, The committee will hold meetings on November 4-5 to hear the views of Muslim women, academics, lawyers and socio-religious organizations.

Tour of five states will start next month

From next Saturday, the committee will begin its tour of five states from Guwahati, where it will hold informal talks with representatives of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Law and Justice of Assam and the State Minority Commissions of Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura and the Waqf Board of Assam. The council will also meet representatives of lawyers’ associations, mutawalli associations and other stakeholders.

Preparation to submit the report within the deadline

The committee will hold discussions with stakeholder groups in Bhubaneswar (November 11), West Bengal (November 12), Bihar (November 13) and Lucknow (November 14). The committee will have to submit its report on the bill by the last day of the first week of the winter session of Parliament. Have been asked to hand over. There are many instances when committees have been given extensions multiple times, but Chairman Pal of this committee is prepared to submit the report within the stipulated deadline.
