What are the main exams to study in UK?

The official language of Britain is English. In such a situation, if any student comes here to study, he/she has to first give an English test. Students have to take an English proficiency test, which can be any one of IELTS, PTE, and TOEFL. If someone wants to study a medical related course in Britain, then he/she may have to give exams like BMAT, GAMSAT and HPAT Ulster. To do courses related to maths, students have to give MAT or STEP exam.

Before studying in Britain, students have to prove their command of English. In most of the universities of the country, admission is available only when the student’s English is good. The reason for this is that she wants students to know English well so that they can participate in lectures and discussions. IELTS: There are two types of ‘International English Language Testing System’ i.e. IELTS. IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. For UK student visa, IELTS band score should be between 4.0 – 5.5. However, the score of each university is different. TOEFL: The score of ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language’ i.e. TOEFL exam is accepted in all the universities of Britain. It also includes the Russell Group of Universities. There are three types of this test, which include paper-based, computer-based and internet version. The minimum TOEFL score required for top UK universities is between 100-110. The minimum TOEFL score for lower ranked universities is less than 70. The fee for TOEFL exam is $245 i.e. approximately Rs 20,500.

PTE: ‘Pearson Test of English’ i.e. PTE is also given to prove the command of English language. This score is accepted in 99 percent of UK universities. To gain admission into British universities, the minimum PET score should be between 50-63. If someone wants to pursue higher education in Britain then he/she can opt for PTE Academic exam. The fee for PTE test is Rs 15,900. This test works on an automated scoring system, due to which there is no possibility of bias.

Cambridge English Language Assessment: This is one of the few English language tests which never expires. However, some British universities do not recognize scores older than two years. The grading system used by Cambridge Assessment English has a minimum cut-off of A, B, or C, which aligns with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR). To obtain a Tier 4 visa, the relevant levels are B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), and C2 Proficiency (CPE).
