It is believed that RCB management wants to hand over the command of the team to an Indian player instead of a foreign captain. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis captained the team in IPL 2024.

The retention deadline for IPL 2025 is October 31. By this date, every franchise has to submit the list of its retained players to BCCI. Talking about Royal Challengers Bangalore, Faf du Plessis captained the team last season. he/she is 40 years old. In such a situation, RCB can choose a new captain for the team. According to Times of India, in the current team, Virat Kohli is leading in this race. Apart from Virat Kohli, RCB can retain Mohammad Siraj, Yash Dayal, Will Jacques, Glenn Maxwell for IPL 2025.

According to IPL sources, RCB management has talked to Virat Kohli about this. Considering the needs of the team, Kohli may be ready to take over the captaincy again. Virat Kohli has captained Royal Challengers Bangalore between 2013 and 2021. Under his/her captaincy, he/she has taken the team to the finals, but has not been able to win the title.

According to reports, RCB had also tried to add Shubman Gill to their team, but things did not work out. There is little possibility of 40 year old Faf du Plessis being retained. The team can add Du Plessis through auction.
