Vinesh, Bajrang joining Congress will be a setback for BJP in Haryana, understand the entire equation

New Delhi : Olympic medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia and female wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Friday joined the Congress ahead of the Haryana assembly elections. Both the wrestlers, who met Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, officially joined the party today on Friday. With this, both of them are strong contenders to get tickets in the state assembly elections. This has put an end to the speculation going on for the last several days about these two. Now the question is how much benefit will the Congress get in this election with the arrival of these two wrestlers. In other words, how much setback will the BJP get due to the joining of these two players in the Congress.

BJP may get a shock

Last year, the impact of the wrestlers’ protest was also seen in the Lok Sabha elections. There was a close contest between BJP and Congress. Both NDA and Congress won 5-5 seats. Now its effect will be seen in the assembly elections as well. The youth in Vinesh’s village Charkhi Dadri say that the people here have not forgotten the pictures of Jantar Mantar. The whole world had seen how the BJP government had treated the wrestlers. According to media reports, the impact of both the wrestlers joining the Congress will be felt not only in Charkhi Dadri but also in Rohtak and Kurukshetra. Political experts believe that Vinesh’s joining the Congress will send a message from the Congress to women voters, especially young girls. It is natural for its effect to be seen on the elections. Political experts say that if women are more active in local politics, then women’s issues are raised strongly in the state.

Farmers hope to get support

Both Phogat and Poonia have supported the farmers’ movement. When the farmers started the movement against the three agricultural laws of the central government in 2020, Phogat showed solidarity with the protesters. Recently, Vinesh Phogat went to Shambhu border and met the farmers sitting on the dharna. Earlier, in one of his/her tweets, he/she had said that farmers just want respect for their hard work. Olympian wrestler Bajrang Punia also participated in the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ held in Kurukshetra in June last year to show solidarity. Farmers had participated in the protest. It is certain that the support of farmers to Congress can also definitely prove to be a setback for the BJP.

Meanwhile, Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia led a protest against former BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Singh. In this, he/she accused him/her of sexual harassment and threats in 2023.

Voting on 5th, counting on 8th

Voting for the 90 seats in Haryana will be held on October 5 and the counting of votes will take place on October 8. Opinion: Phogat, Poonia, Jadeja… the relationship between sportspersons and politics is old, there is politics in sports itself

These are caste equations

The two major political forces in the state, the Congress and the BJP, are set to battle primarily over the Jat and Other Backward Class (OBC) vote banks respectively. The Jats constitute around 22 per cent of the state’s population. The Congress is considered to have a strong hold on the Jats. The Scheduled Castes in the state constitute around 20% of the state’s population as per the 2011 census. This could be a deciding factor in the assembly elections. Voting pattern for SCs in Haryana over the past decade The community voted overwhelmingly for the BJP in the 2014 assembly election, but was evenly split in the last election.
