Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.Islamabad: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has come into the limelight due to a heated argument with a journalist. The journalist alleges that Dar slapped him/her when he/she asked questions about a stalled IMF deal. According to reports, the incident took place on Thursday when Dar was coming out of the Parliament complex after addressing the session of the National Assembly, when journalist Shahid Qureshi asked him/her questions. In a video viral on social media, the reporter can be seen asking Dar if he/she would like to talk and the minister replied that he/she had just left from his/her speech.
Dar got angry on the question related to IMF
Reporter Qureshi asked questions about the stalled IMF program and referred to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. The 73-year-old Dar did not answer questions but the journalist continued and questioned the government’s failure to secure a USD 1.1 billion deal from the IMF. Dar then replied that the deal could not happen ‘because people like you are in the system’. The journalist defended himself saying that he/she was not part of the ‘system’ but only asked questions.
‘Dar tried to snatch the mobile phone’
As soon as the journalist said this, Dar got angry and confronted him/her. he/she asked the reporter what he/she wanted and asked him/her to ‘fear God’. Dar then tried to snatch the mobile phone of the journalist and also instructed the security personnel to confiscate the mobile phone and throw it away. The Pakistani Finance Minister’s security personnel then intervened and took Dar to a vehicle in the parking lot. The journalist later claimed in a video that he/she was caught by Dar’s security guards and slapped by the minister.
