Bridgetown. The Indian team won the title by defeating South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup final. Captain Rohit Sharma had never thought of retiring from T20 cricket but he/she took this decision to make way for the younger generation like Virat Kohli. After becoming the world champion, the captain said that what could be better than retiring with the World Cup trophy.

Talking to the media after defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final, Rohit said that there could not be a better time to quit T20 international cricket, although he/she said that he/she will continue playing IPL. he/she said, “I do not take decisions about my future like this. I do what I feel good from within. I do not think much about the future. Even after the ODI World Cup last year, I did not think whether I would play this World Cup or not.”

he/she said, “I never thought that I would retire from T20. But the circumstances are perfect. It is better to bid farewell after winning the World Cup. Whatever is written is going to happen. It was written but we do not know when it was written. Otherwise we would have come comfortably and said that it is written, it will happen. It is important that everything is right. At one time we were behind in the match and it seemed that they would win easily.

Rohit was also a member of the team that won the title in the first World Cup in 2007 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Talking about his/her journey, he/she said, “I was told that when I started in 2007, we had won the World Cup and now I am bidding farewell with the World Cup. The cycle of life has come full circle. I am very happy. I was 20 years old at that time. I tell the players to play their role. I used to bat at number five or six at that time.”
