VHP protests at Jantar Mantar, demands intervention from UN to stop atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh

New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad protested on Monday against alleged attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and demanded the intervention of the United Nations to stop the atrocities. People taking part in the protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar raised slogans demanding safety of Hindus in Bangladesh. VHP said that if atrocities on Hindus are not stopped in Bangladesh then the country can be divided into two parts.

‘Lakhs of Hindus displaced in Bangladesh’

VHP’s Delhi unit chief Kapil Khanna said that the situation in Bangladesh is worrying. he/she claimed that there is anger among Hindus and they have come here to express their anger. he/she said, ‘Hindus are being persecuted in Bangladesh and lakhs of Hindus have been displaced. Our sisters and daughters are being tortured.

Mahant Naval Kishore Das, who joined the protest, said, ‘Our sisters and daughters are being tortured, religious places are being demolished and saints are being put in jail. Hindus will not accept this. VHP State Secretary Surendra Gupta demanded the United Nations and international human rights organizations to intervene in this matter and stop the atrocities. he/she said that if atrocities do not stop, Bangladesh may break into two.

Attacks on Hindus increased in Bangladesh

Hindus constitute eight percent of the population of 17 crore in Bangladesh. More than 200 attacks on minority Hindus have been recorded in more than 50 districts in Bangladesh since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government from power on August 5.

ISKCON demonstrated

ISKCON held protest kirtans at its Albert Road center in Kolkata on Thursday and Friday against the events in Bangladesh, demanding the release of jailed Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. The religious body expressed concern over the condition of religious minorities in Bangladesh. Das was arrested in a sedition case and later a court refused to grant him/her bail, following which community members started protests in various places including the capital Dhaka and Chittagong.
