New Delhi: Since the entry of monsoon, people in Delhi-NCR are constantly waiting for heavy rain. It is raining but there is no picture of torrential rain. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in different states of the country. From Gujarat to Odisha, the entire central India and the South Peninsular region will remain in the grip of heavy rain till Sunday i.e. July 21. However, Kerala and Tamil Nadu will not see much effect of rain during this time. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert regarding rain in many areas including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana. Orange alert has been issued in the surrounding states including Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh.

This alert regarding heavy rain has been issued due to a major change in the Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, the low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal on Monday turned into a depression on Tuesday morning. This system moved towards the west-central Bay of Bengal, near Odisha, near Puri, Gopalpur and Paradip. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest forecast that this system has moved northwest. According to the Meteorological Department, in view of this depression and its further progress, heavy rain warnings have been issued in many states on Saturday and Sunday. There are chances of heavy rains in Telangana, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Gujarat, so people there need to be especially cautious. There is an ‘Orange’ alert for Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kutch and Saurashtra, there is a possibility of heavy rains here too.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in Central India and South Peninsular regions during this weekend i.e. the next 24 hours. According to the IMD forecast, there is a possibility of rain in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and East Rajasthan during the next three days. These areas will be affected by the new system. Apart from this, weather systems are active in some other areas due to which the effect of monsoon continues.

What is the rain update in Gujarat

During June 1 to July 19, about 324.4 mm of rain was recorded across India, which was 98 per cent more than the normal for this season. At least 15 states or union territories have recorded normal or above normal rainfall so far. Porbandar in Gujarat received 490 mm of rain in the last 24 hours on Friday, a new record for the city. This was Porbandar’s wettest July day since 1961. The previous highest single-day record here was 444.3 mm on July 16, 2009.
