Valmiki Jayanti: How did dacoit Ratnakar become the sage who wrote Ramayana? Know his/her story on Valmiki Jayanti

Valmiki’s story in Hindi: Maharishi Valmiki is a very famous name in the philosophy and history of India. Who wrote an epic like Ramayana, who gave shelter to Mother Sita during her exile and taught Ram’s two sons Luv-Kush. Hearing his/her character as a sage, one can hardly believe that such a person would have ever been a robber and robber. A dacoit named Ratnakar used to ambush people passing by and rob them. Know here the story of a dacoit becoming a sage.

Once upon a time, a dacoit named Ratnakar used to attack people and forcibly snatch their property. It had been a long time since this happened, in the meantime a life-changing incident of meeting Narad Muni occurred in the life of that robber.

When dacoit Ratnakar met Narad…

Suddenly Ratnakar appeared in front of Narad Muni and tried to scare him/her but Narad was not perturbed at all. Seeing this nature of Narad, Ratnakar was a little surprised and saw that apart from Veeda, Narad did not have any special property to snatch. Even after this, Ratnakar told Narad that if he/she wanted to save his/her life, he/she should give him/her whatever valuables he/she had. Narad said that he/she had a very precious thing but – ‘Ratnakar will you be able to take it.’ Ratnakar was again a little surprised.

‘Is your family your partner in this action?’

Then Narad asked a question that for whom is Ratnakar doing the work of robbery. his/her answer was to provide facilities and support his/her family. Narad’s next question was – ‘You are giving money to your family by looting it from people, will that family support you even when the consequences of this action come. Is your family your accomplice in this act of robbery? Will your family members stand with you for this work when the time comes?

Curiosity arose in Ratnakar’s mind too and he/she tied Narad to a tree and went to question his/her family. Then both the family members i.e. wife and father clearly denied that even though he/she was enjoying the luxuries from the looted money, Ratnakar would have to bear the consequences of the robbery alone and he/she could not be his/her partner in this work. .

‘Property in the name of Ram found after robbery’

Disappointed with the response of the family, Ratnakar returned to Narada. he/she realized that he/she was wasting his/her life in useless activities, and the people for whom he/she was doing it were also not his/her friends. A desire for change arose within him/her and then Narada Muni told the dacoit Ratnakar about the property named Ram.
Ratnakar’s spiritual journey started from here. A journey that transformed a dacoit into Maharishi Valmiki. Even today we remember him/her with respect and are celebrating Valmiki Jayanti in his/her memory.
