US News: Phones banned in schools in this US state, government makes new law

US phone restrictions: The trend of smartphones has increased rapidly in the last decade all over the world. Everyone is seen with one or the other smartphone in their hands. During Covid, children’s education shifted online. Their classes started being held on mobile phones and tablets. Due to this, children have become badly addicted to smartphones. Although, classes have been going on offline for the last two years, but even after this, children are reaching the classroom with mobile phones.
A similar thing is being seen in America, where children coming to class are bringing smartphones. Because of this, they are not able to concentrate on studies because they are busy using social media or playing games. Children are also at risk of mental illness and hearing loss due to smartphones. Troubled by this, California, one of the largest states in America, has made a law, through which now bringing smartphones to the classroom will be banned.

Smartphones are also banned in 13 states of America

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Monday, under which schools are being limited or banned the use of smartphones. There has been a demand for a ban on mobile phones in classrooms in California for a long time. According to a report by Education Week, 13 states of America have banned or limited the use of mobile phones in school this year. Florida was the first state to ban mobile phones in the classroom in 2023.

The decision will affect 60 lakh children

The school board of Los Angeles County, California, banned the use of smartphones in classrooms in June this year. This affected 4,29,000 students studying there. Now, following the path of Los Angeles County, California has banned about 60 lakh children from bringing smartphones to school. Children were not able to focus on one place due to phones in schools, which was creating problems for them. They were not even studying properly.

Smartphones will be completely banned by 2026

The bill to ban smartphones has passed 76-0 in the State Assembly and 38-1 in the Senate. Under this law, school boards or other governing bodies will have to develop a policy to limit or ban the use of smartphones by students in school by July 1, 2026. They will also have to update the policy every five years. In this way, smartphones will not be banned for now, but within the next two years it will be completely banned.

Governor Gavin Newsom said, “We know that excessive smartphone use is linked to anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems. But we have the power to intervene. This new law will help students focus on academics, social development, and the world in front of them—not on screens—while they’re in school.”
