New Delhi. During the match between India and America, something happened on the cricket field late Wednesday night which had never happened before. Actually, the difference between balls and runs was gradually increasing. India needed 35 runs from 30 balls. Then suddenly the umpire informed that a penalty of five runs is imposed on the US team. With this, the score of the Indian team chasing the target became almost equal on this difficult pitch of New York. Now India had to score 30 runs from 30 balls. From here onwards it became easy for Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dubey, who were batting, to ensure the victory of Team India.

It is natural to wonder what mistake did America commit that has never been committed on a cricket field before. Let us tell you about it. Actually, after the end of one over, every team is given 60 seconds to bowl the next over. If a team fails to do this three times, the umpire can impose a penalty of five runs on it. America’s captain Andris Gaus made this mistake not once but three times, due to which the team also had to suffer.

ICC statement…
The ICC said in a statement, “If the bowling team is not ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of the end of the previous over, a penalty of 5 runs will be imposed for the third time in the innings.” The umpires had warned USA captain Aaron Jones twice for violating the stop-clock rule, but after doing so for the third time, the umpires ordered five penalty runs.

Why didn’t any other team make this mistake before?
Earlier, the ICC had also revealed that this rule will be introduced from the T20 World Cup 2024. In future, it will be applicable in T20 Internationals. Since then, it has been permanently implemented in the entire white-ball cricket including ODI cricket. This is the reason why America became the first team to break this rule.
