UPSC IAS Success Story of Preeti Beniwal: Preeti Beniwal, a resident of Dulheri, a small village in Haryana, had a lot of difficulties in life but her intentions were much bigger than that. After being injured in a train accident, she had to undergo 14 surgeries, her husband and in-laws broke off the marriage with her and after this Preeti failed the UPSC exam twice. But she did not give up and with her hard work and dedication fulfilled her dream of becoming an IAS officer.

The story of Preeti Beniwal becoming an IAS

After studying at a private school in Phafdaana village, Preeti completed her B.Tech and M.Tech degrees from Israna College with good marks. From 2013 to 2016, she worked as a clerk in a rural bank in Bahadurgarh.

Subsequently, from 2016 to January 2021, he/she worked as Assistant General II in FCI in Karnal. In January 2021, he/she got appointed as Assistant Section Officer in the Ministry of External Affairs and served in Delhi.

In December 2016, Preeti was about to take an exam in Ghaziabad for promotion in FCI. But destiny had something else in store for her. She met with a tragic accident when she was run over by a train at Ghaziabad railway station. She suffered severe injuries and had to undergo 14 operations. She was bedridden for over a year.

After the accident, Preeti’s husband and in-laws abandoned her and her marriage broke down. But despite all this, Preeti did not give up. Preeti, who dreamed of becoming an IAS officer since childhood, started preparing for the UPSC exam.

After failing twice without any coaching, he/she finally cleared the UPSC exam in 2020 with a rank of 754. With this victory, he/she inspired all those people who give up in the face of life’s difficulties.

Sharing her experience in an interview, Preeti Beniwal said, ‘Life is more important than any exam. Children often talk about committing suicide if they fail in the exam. I don’t understand how an exam can dominate someone’s life so much. I would just like to say that this is just an exam. No one is less than anyone and no one is more than anyone. Give your best, stay calm and don’t be afraid of anything.’
