Upasana has revealed that before Bhagyashree, she was Sooraj Barjatya’s choice for ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. he/she had also auditioned for the role of Bhagyashree. Upasana told that when she came to Mumbai for the first time, she met Sooraj Barjatya. he/she told Upasana everything about the film as well as the role and selected her. Upasana said, ‘Sooraj Barjatya told me to come tomorrow and meet my father. But from my side you are okay for the role. The next day I went and met his/her father, but he/she rejected me.

Upasana Singh further said, ‘They are very lovely people. he/she did not tell me that I was rejected, but that he/she did not call me again. What was the reason for rejection? Regarding this, Upasana told that she was looking for a heroine who was a little less tall than Salman. She said, ‘I was told that I was not making any excuse, but you were taller than Salman. he/she wanted someone who was shorter in height than Salman. That’s why I was not cast and he/she was not lying.

Many years later, Upasana was cast in Rajshri’s film ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’ and then Rajkumar Barjatya announced in front of the entire cast that Upasana Singh was the first choice for the role of Suman in ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’.

Describing that incident, Upasana said, ‘he/she said, do you know who was our first choice for ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’? Kareena, Abhishek and Hrithik were all present there. I never told people about it because the role was out of my hands. Then he/she said she was Upasana. Everyone was surprised. I said but because of you I did not get this role. On this he/she said that if I had chosen you, you too would have left films like Bhagyashree.
