Meteorologists have predicted a bountiful monsoon this year. To mitigate the impact of floods, the government has already repaired dams in vulnerable districts. Sand bags and bamboo carts required during floods have been stocked in sufficient quantity at vulnerable places. The flood control room and wireless centers have been set up to work round the clock to deal with the emergency, the spokesman said. Central Flood Control Room has been set up in Lucknow. Guards have been deployed to monitor sensitive locations and generators and petromax have been arranged for the night.Excavations done in rivers at some placesChief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the concerned ministers and officials to monitor the situation in all the sensitive districts and set up camps there as well. He said that rivers have been excavated at some places and CCTV cameras have been installed at the headquarters for effective monitoring. The spokesperson said that a major step taken by the State Government is to increase the budget for flood management.
Jal Shakti Minister who has visited 28 districtsUttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Mahendra Singh himself is visiting the districts and taking stock of the arrangements. Jal Shakti Minister has so far visited 28 districts regarding floods. Soon he is going to visit the districts of Purvanchal which are hit by floods every year. These include Ballia, Mau, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Deoria and many other districts.
Yogi government’s big budget for floodsAgainst the previous Samajwadi Party government’s annual provision of Rs 382 crore for flood control between 2014 and 2017, the Yogi Adityanath government has earmarked Rs 1,058.56 crore for 2019 to 20 and 2021 to 22. It is noteworthy that in 2013 the total flood affected area of the state was 2,336,992 hectares while the total cultivable land affected was 1,541,373 hectares, which decreased to 1,46,953 and 6,886 hectares respectively in 2020.
