UP 69000 Teacher Recruitment: The matter will go to the Supreme Court, understand why the OBC quota reservation is stuck

69000 Assistant Teacher Latest Update: After the High Court’s decision in the 69000 teacher recruitment case in UP, on one hand the future of many teachers is hanging in balance. On the other hand, political turmoil is also continuing. The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court has canceled the merit list of teacher recruitment. The government has been ordered to release the result of the 69000 assistant teacher recruitment exam afresh. On this decision of the court, teachers are now preparing to go to the Supreme Court.

‘Reservation rules should be implemented in direct recruitment’

According to Dharmendra Mishra, state in-charge of Anarakshan Chhatra Morcha, the reservation rule of 1994 should be applicable only in direct recruitment, in which there is only one exam. The 69 thousand assistant teacher recruitment exam was held on 6 January 2019. The cutoff for the unreserved category for this recruitment was 67.11 percent and the cutoff for OBC was 66.73 percent.

The 69000 teacher recruitment candidates who took to the streets in protest against this said that it is clear in this rule that if an OBC candidate scores more marks than the cutoff of the unreserved category, he/she will get a job in the unreserved category and not from the OBC quota. That is, he/she will not be counted in the scope of reservation. After this, the matter of recruitment of 69 thousand teachers got complicated.

What is the matter of OBC reservation in UP teacher recruitment?

The candidate claims that in the recruitment of 69 thousand teachers, the OBC category got only 3.86 percent reservation instead of 27 percent. That is, out of 18,598 seats, the OBC category got only 2,637 seats. Whereas at that time the government said that about 31 thousand people were appointed from the OBC category.

On this statement of the government, the candidates, citing Basic Education Rules-1981 and Reservation Rules 1994, said that out of the 31 thousand people of OBC category who have been appointed, about 29 thousand were entitled to get seats from the unreserved category.

Recruitment was released on 6 January 2019

The state government had announced recruitment for assistant teacher posts on 6 January 2019. The cutoff for the unreserved category for this recruitment was 67.11 percent and the cutoff for OBC was 66.73 percent. About 68 thousand teachers got jobs in this recruitment. Candidates allege that reservation rules have been ignored in the 69 thousand recruitments.

Actually, the Basic Education Rules 1981 have not been followed properly. Candidates had protested fiercely regarding this recruitment. They also said that it is clearly written in the rules that if an OBC category candidate scores more marks than the cutoff of the unreserved category, then he/she will be given a job from the unreserved category and not from the OBC quota. They will not be counted in the scope of reservation.
