Understand how the vote percentage increases after voting in Lok Sabha elections.


New Delhi: The total voting in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Saturday was revised to more than 63.4 percent by Sunday evening. This is higher than the fifth phase’s voting percentage of 62.2 percent, which is the lowest ever. However, the turnout for Phase 6 is still much lower than the turnout for the first four phases. According to the voting data officially shared by the Election Commission at 11.45 pm on Saturday night, there was 61.2% voting in the sixth phase.

Why does voting percentage increase?

Initially it is continuously updated through the Voter Turnout App of the Election Commission. After this, the polling party i.e. the officials conducting the elections have finally submitted their report. This results in an increase in the polling day figures. This was an increase of 2.2 percent in respect of the sixth phase. Moreover, Phase 6 turnout is now 1.2 percentage points higher than Phase 5 turnout. Sources told our associate newspaper The Times of India that the voting data for Phase 6, as available on the EC app at 10 pm on Sunday, is almost final as there will be no repoll after the scrutiny that took place in the presence of the candidates or their agents on Sunday. Delhi: Vote percentage increased but less than last time

On Sunday evening, the total voting in NCT Delhi was revised to 58.7 percent. It was 57.7 percent at 11.45 pm on Saturday night. However, this is still lower than the 60.6 percent turnout recorded in 2019. All the seven parliamentary constituencies of Delhi also witnessed less voting compared to the last Lok Sabha elections. North East Delhi parliamentary constituency recorded the highest turnout in the state at 62.8%, according to data available on the voter turnout app on Sunday evening. Like 2019, New Delhi saw the lowest turnout at 55.4%, followed by South Delhi at 56.4%. On Sunday evening, 57.8 percent voting took place in North West Delhi, 58.6 percent in Chandni Chowk, 58.8 percent in West Delhi and 59.5 percent in East Delhi.

By what percentage did votes increase in which state?

State-wise polling, as updated on the Voter turnout app till Sunday evening, shows the biggest increase of 4.9 percentage points in Odisha. It increased from 69.6 percent at 11.45 pm on Saturday night to 74.5 percent on Sunday evening. Additionally, Haryana witnessed an increase of 4.4 percentage points, from 60.4 per cent at 11.45 pm on Saturday to 64.8 per cent on Sunday evening. The rise was also significant in Odisha. The revised turnout was 4.1 percentage points higher than the 69.6 percent turnout announced by the Election Commission at the end of polling day. West Bengal saw an increase of 3.2 percentage points from 79.5 percent to 82.7%, possibly due to polling parties taking time to return from remote polling stations. Voting percentage increased by about 1.6 percentage points in Jharkhand, 1.9 percentage points in Bihar, 0.5 percentage points in Jammu and Kashmir and 1 percentage point in Delhi.

No change in UP

The voting figures for UP were almost the same as on Saturday. The commission had on Saturday said it will publish updated voter turnout figures for Phase 6 by May 30. Voting – which is currently based on EVM votes and does not include postal ballots. There have been ups and downs in these at different stages. The highest turnout of 69.2% was recorded in the fourth phase 4. There was 65.7 percent voting in Phase 3. The lowest was 62.2 percent in the fifth phase but then it came back to 63.2 percent in the sixth phase. Earlier, there was 66.7 percent voting in the second phase and 66.1 percent voting in the first phase.
