The advisory said crowded areas, religious buildings and political rallies are possible targets.

“There is a possibility of terrorists trying to carry out attacks in Bangladesh. Terrorist attacks can be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreign nationals, such as crowded areas, religious buildings, and political rallies. Some groups have targeted people they consider to have views and lifestyles contrary to Islam,” the UK government said in an advisory issued on Tuesday (local time).

“There have been occasional attacks against minority religious communities and targeting police and security forces. These include Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks in major cities. Bangladeshi authorities are working tirelessly to foil planned attacks. The statement said increased security force presence and restrictions on movement could be imposed at short notice.

The UK Government also recommends following the advice of local authorities and avoiding large gatherings.

According to the advisory, “You should be aware of your surroundings, especially in and around police buildings. Avoid large gatherings and other locations with police or security presence. Follow the advice of local authorities.

The advisory comes amid a dire situation in Bangladesh, which is grappling with a worrying increase in violent attacks against Hindus and other minority groups. This wave of violence has caused widespread concern and there are urgent calls for greater protection and support for these vulnerable communities.

Recently the British Parliament expressed deep concern over the recent violence in Bangladesh.

In a parliamentary address on Monday, UK MP Priti Patel expressed condolences to those affected by the Bangladesh violence and called on the Keir Starmer government to take “strong action” to protect lives and stop the violence.

“I am deeply concerned by the terrible violence we have seen in Bangladesh and my thoughts are with those affected. In Parliament this afternoon, I urged the government to explain how they are engaging with the Bangladeshi government on this important and significant issue,” Patel said in his/her address on Monday (local time).

“Strong action must be taken to protect life and prevent violence and persecution, including against religious belief,” he/she said.

Highlighting the situation in Bangladesh, the UK MP said the degree of increase is “deeply worrying”.

Furthermore, they expressed concern over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu priest, and urged the government to take decisive action to ensure his/her release.

Bangladesh has witnessed increasing violence against minority communities following the hoisting of the saffron flag over the Bangladesh national flag in Chittagong on October 25 and the arrest of former priest Chinmoy Krishna Das on treason charges.
