Two-day discussion on Constitution will continue in Lok Sabha, Congress and BJP compete for credit, both issue whip

New Delhi: On the occasion of completion of 75 years of the implementation of the Constitution, a two-day discussion on the Constitution is starting in the Lok Sabha from Friday, due to which both the ruling parties BJP and Congress are seen competing to take credit for this discussion. Both the national parties have issued whips to their MPs to remain present in the House for two days. In fact, both the ruling party and the opposition are seeing this as an opportunity which they can capitalize on in their favor. On Thursday, Congress released the letter written by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to the Lok Sabha Speaker on November 26, in which Rahul Gandhi was appealed to the Speaker to hold a discussion in the House on the occasion of completion of 75 years of the Constitution.

Rahul’s letter

In his/her letter, he/she wrote that I am writing this letter to you on behalf of all the opposition parties, requesting a two-day discussion in both the Houses of Parliament on the historic occasion of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly. This will allow the special function organized in the Central Hall to go ahead. This historic occasion provides an invaluable opportunity to all Parliamentarians to collectively reflect on the legacy of the architect of the Constitution, Dr. BR Ambedkar. There have been many occasions for such special discussions in the past also. Addressing the speaker in the letter, Rahul wrote that I am confident that you will agree to our request. This discussion in the House will strengthen the spirit of democracy and demonstrate the commitment of Parliament to the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity envisioned by the Constitution.

Party issued whip

In view of the two-day discussion to be held on Friday and Saturday, BJP and Congress on Thursday issued a three-line whip to all their MPs and directed them to remain inside the House on both the days. While the discussion is to be held in the Lok Sabha on 13-14 December, it will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha on 16-17. PM Modi will address this in the Lok Sabha on Saturday.

opportunity to discuss

Both the ruling party and the opposition are seeing the discussion on the Constitution as an opportunity to corner their opponents in their own ways. In fact, the way the opposition was looking aggressive in the Rajya Sabha regarding the stand of the Chairman and the confrontation in the Rajya Sabha regarding the issue of no-confidence motion and the continuous deadlock and uproar in the Parliament on issues like Soros, Adani, in view of that, the Constitution discussion was held in the House on the occasion of There was a danger of an uproar in the House, but the way Rahul Gandhi met the Speaker on Wednesday and extended his/her hand of cooperation by appealing to him/her to run the House and after that the functioning of the House continued for the last two days, it is clear that the Opposition is on this occasion. To Don’t want to lose.

The ruling party can also surround the opposition

The ruling party felt that the opposition would continue on the path of deadlock and ruckus regarding the Soros-Adani issue and the Constitution would not be discussed, in that situation the ruling party could prove the opposition to be anti-constitutional. he/she can say in front of the country that the opposition which is invoking the Constitution is not actually serious about running the House or discussing the Constitution. But this initiative of the opposition has somehow spoiled the plans of the ruling party. The opposition also realizes this. A senior leader of the opposition said that the government does not want the House to function and the Constitution to be discussed, but our effort is to ensure that there is no obstruction of any kind. On the other hand, a woman MP from the opposition said that during the discussion on the Constitution, we will be able to present before the country all those policies and steps of the Modi government which are anti-constitutional or against the spirit of the constitution. he/she said that we are just looking for an opportunity where we can express our views, because either we are not allowed to speak in the House or we are removed from the proceedings of the House.

It is noteworthy that the opposition had set the narrative in the Lok Sabha elections by terming the Modi government as anti-constitutional. All the opposition members took oath in the Lok Sabha with the Constitution in their hands. The opposition is busy preparing for this discussion. On the other hand, the ruling party is preparing to corner Congress through occasions like Emergency.
