San Francisco. Twitter has acknowledged that parts of its source code were leaked online on GitHub and has sent a copyright infringement notice to the open-source coding collaboration platform. In a court filing, Twitter obtained an order from the US District Court for the Northern District of California to require GitHub to identify the person who shared the code and others who downloaded it, The New York Times reported.
GitHub has removed the code, but it is unclear how long the leaked source code was posted online.
The exposed source code adds to the challenges facing Musk’s Twitter.
Technology companies often view such code as a secret and don’t share it for fear that it could give competitors an unfair advantage or expose security vulnerabilities, the report noted.
Musk did not comment on Twitter’s leaked code.
This month, Twitter’s CEO announced that the micro-blogging platform will open source all the code used to recommend tweets on March 31.
Musk tweeted: Twitter will open up all the code used to recommend tweets on March 31.
That said, our ‘algorithm’ is highly complex and not fully understood internally. People will discover tons of silly things, but we’ll fix the issues as soon as they’re found!
Providing code transparency will be incredibly confusing at first, he/she said, but this should rapidly improve recommendation quality. Most importantly, we hope to earn your trust.
Last month, Musk said the platform would make its algorithm open source and improve it rapidly.
Twitter CEO said that in the coming months, the company will use artificial intelligence (AI) to discover and uncover public opinion on the platform.(IANS)
