Delhi Police. With the arrival of summer holidays, it has become almost impossible to get reservation of seats in trains. In such a situation, there are many people who are trying to take advantage of this situation in different ways. At the same time, people are ready to go to any extent in the hope of getting a confirmed seat. Delhi Police has exposed a similar case and arrested three ‘TTEs’.

According to Crime Branch DCP Sanjay Bhatia, the arrested accused have been identified as Santosh Kumar, Ashutosh Kumar and Afroz Ansari. All three arrested accused are residents of Sitamarhi district of Bihar. Their target was mainly the passengers traveling by trains of Bihar. A total of 11 cases have come to light after their arrest.

How was the whole matter revealed?
According to DCP Sanjay Bhatia, the crime branch had received information about illegal activities going on in the name of seat confirmation. On the basis of this information, the crime branch started collecting intelligence inputs. The Crime Branch team, with the help of a secret intel, made the first arrest from IFFCO Chowk, Gurugram. The accused was identified as Santosh Kumar.

During interrogation, accused Santosh confessed that he along with his two associates named Rakesh Paswan and Afroz used to trap such passengers who were worried about getting confirmed tickets in the train. The target of the three accused, who claimed to be Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) of the Indian Railways, was especially the passengers of trains going towards Bihar.

According to DCP Sanjay Bhatia, while disclosing an incident of the past, he said that while traveling in a metro train, he assured a person of confirming the train ticket and kept taking him around in different areas of Delhi. As soon as they got the chance, all three ran away with all his belongings, which included the passenger’s mobile phone, purse, PAN card, debit card and a bag full of clothes.

He told that he got the PIN number of that passenger’s debit card from his pocket diary. After which, everyone purchased electronic and household goods from Ambience Mall in Vasantkuj with the same debit card. Based on Santosh’s disclosure, the crime branch registered an FIR under section 379 of the IPC and started searching for other accused.

These things were recovered from the possession of the accused
According to DCP Sanjay Bhatia, on the behest of accused Santosh, other accused Afroz and Ashutosh were arrested from Dabri, Delhi. Afroz was seen in CCTV footage withdrawing money from the ATM with Santosh. 11 debit cards of various banks, 11 mobile phones and two PAN cards have been recovered from Ashutosh’s possession.

During interrogation, it was revealed that accused Ashutosh used to withdraw money from the accounts of the victims using their debit cards after generating new PIN numbers. He had withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from the account of a victim. In this matter, a case was also registered at Vikaspuri Police Station, Delhi on 30 April 2024. The Crime Branch has recovered 22 mobile phones and 25 credit/debit cards from their possession.
