In such a situation, the leaders of the four political parties in the caretaker government there are holding discussions to reach an agreement. Although there is not much time left for that also, because the deadline to form a new government is about to end today.

According to Presswire18 correspondent, to end the political instability in Nepal, the exercise started by the top parties to form a new government has been inconclusive. Till Saturday evening, it was believed that the discussions on power-sharing between the Nepali Congress led by Sher Bahadur Deuba and the CPN-Maoist Center led by Prachanda are in the final stages, but even today there is no official announcement or claim regarding the swearing-in ceremony. has not been done.

There are reports that discussions are on at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar as to who will head the government first, talks are expected to be finalized to break the ice and seal an agreement. It has been told by the PM Secretariat that before the meeting of the alliance, Nepal’s caretaker Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding a meeting with Pushpa Kamal Dahal-Prachanda, chairman of the Maoist Centre. However, several rounds of meetings held since Friday have failed to bring the leaders to an agreement.

Before reaching Baluwatar, the top Maoist leader held discussions with his party leaders at his residence in Khumaltar. Meanwhile, Deuba also held several rounds of discussions with senior party members before leaving for the meeting with Prachanda. There is talk of staking claim for the post of prime minister between the two leaders.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress leadership is under pressure not to leave the post of prime minister to the Maoists. A leader who attended the meeting said that the major parties—the Nepal Congress (NC) and the Maoist Centre—were adamant on their respective positions on the prime minister’s post, so the parties could not reach a consensus on government formation.

Nepal Congress (NC) leader Gyanendra Karki said, “We will reach a decision today.” He said, “The coalition partners will form the government.” On the other hand, Maoist president Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is insisting that he should be allowed to lead the government, while Nepali Congress is insisting on leading the government as the single largest party.

Nepali media are reporting that political drama is on in full swing in the capital Kathmandu as the deadline for President Bidya Devi Bhandari to recommend names for the Prime Minister within 7 days to the parties ends at 5 pm today.

President Bhandari has asked the parties to unanimously agree on the candidate for the post of Prime Minister under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution. Bhandari called the parties to form the government after the Election Commission gave the final results of the House of Representatives elections.
