Crowd started gathering since late night

A police officer said they had to lathicharge when people standing outside the pub were staring at the dancers inside and playing sheetis. Thousands of people had gathered on MG Road since the wee hours of Sunday and the growing crowd eventually disrupted traffic. Seeing the huge crowd getting out of control, the police resorted to lathicharge. However, he said that the written complaint related to molestation in Koramangala has not been received by the police.

Additional police personnel deployed at many places

Earlier, before the end of 2022, the Karnataka government had told about the Kovid rules. Then it was said that for the celebration of the new year, a huge crowd has to be avoided. The government had also asked to wear masks in crowded places like cinema halls. However, despite this, people gathered in many areas of Bengaluru celebrated the new year with great enthusiasm. To deal with such a situation, a large number of police personnel were also deployed on MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street.
