Arindam Bagchi on China: India said on Thursday (January 5) that peace on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is necessary for the overall development of bilateral relations with China. Earlier, China’s new Foreign Minister Qin Gang had talked about improving the relations between India and China. The Government of India has also made it clear that China will have to give up its expansionist policy.
Responding to the Chinese Foreign Minister’s remarks, Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday (January 5), “It is very important to make peace on the LAC to normalize relations.” He said these things during a press conference. He was asked about the remarks of China’s new Foreign Minister Qin Gang in which he had said that both sides are keen to normalize the situation in the backdrop of the border standoff on the LAC.
‘Everyone is familiar with India’s stand’
“You would be aware of India’s long-standing position that ensuring peace and tranquility in the border areas is essential for the development of our relations,” Bagchi said. He said, “Along with this, bilateral agreements will have to be followed and efforts to unilaterally change the status quo on the border will also be avoided.”
I have full faith in the Indian Army
India has been saying that relations with China cannot be normal until there is peace in the border areas. Asked about reports of construction work in some areas on the LAC by the Chinese side, Bagchi said he has full faith in the Indian armed forces for the security of his territory.

He said, “India and China are in dialogue through diplomatic and military channels and are informed about Chinese activities through these channels only.” Bagchi said, “Both sides are focused towards the task of disengagement, bringing normalcy on the border.”
