Accidents reduced in 2020 due to lockdown
According to the ministry, there has been an increase of 1.9 percent in road accident deaths in 2021 as compared to the year 2019. It has been said that this report cannot be compared with the figures from last year i.e. 2020 because there was a lockdown during that time.
Last year 2020 saw a significant decrease in road accidents, accidental deaths and injuries in the country due to the stringent nationwide lockdown imposed during March-April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After that there was gradual unlocking and the lockdown was removed in a phased manner. This is the reason why there was a decrease in road accidents last year.
