Know the equation of seats
In the mayoral election, the numbers game is in favor of AAP, which has 150 votes against BJP’s 113. AAP has the votes of 134 corporators, 3 MPs and 13 MLAs. While BJP has 105 corporators, 7 MPs and one MLA vote. The Congress has nine councilors in the MCD house while two others are independents. Anti-defection law does not apply
The mayor is elected through a secret ballot and councilors are free to vote for any candidate as the anti-defection law does not apply. The BJP is unlikely to win the posts of mayor and deputy mayor, but will try to win three posts of crucial standing committee members of the MCD. However, some BJP leaders claimed that the posts of mayor and deputy mayor could see a tough fight as the anti-defection law does not apply to MCDs and cross-voting is possible.
Who are all in the field?
BJP has fielded Shalimar Bagh corporator Rekha Gupta as the mayoral candidate. Delhi BJP media cell chief Harish Khurana said that the BJP has nominated Rekha Gupta as mayoral candidate, Kamal Bagri as deputy mayor candidate as well as Kamaljit Sehrawat, Gajendra Daral and Pankaj Luthra for the posts of standing committee members.
