Sources said that the security arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony on June 9 will be similar to the G-20 summit. In coordination with intelligence agencies and armed forces, ground-to-air surveillance is being arranged for the security of central Delhi. All kinds of arrangements are being made to deal with any threat. This security is being kept so tight because the rulers of many countries will attend this swearing-in ceremony. Heads of government of Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka and other South Asian countries have been invited to it.

Two other important security issues are the movement of their convoy and the security of the route between the hotel and the venue. Each dignitary will be given a call sign, which will be announced on the morning of the ceremony. This will be used to coordinate the movement of the convoy and their route to Rashtrapati Bhavan and the duty path. A detailed brainstorming session was held at the Delhi Police headquarters on Thursday afternoon to discuss the nuances of the arrangements. According to a DCP-rank officer aware of the discussions, during the meeting it was decided to replicate the measures adopted during the G-20. “This means that there will be DCP-rank site commanders at each hotel where the foreign heads of state will stay. They will report to zonal/vertical commanders of the Special Commissioner rank,” the officer said.

Intelligence agencies are coordinating with their foreign counterparts, who will create immediate security cordons for their respective dignitaries. The Delhi Police is working on the inputs provided to it to secure the venues and routes. The threat perception of each foreign leader is being studied individually.

The intrusion alert system and posture recognition will help the police identify suspicious activities. “If any man or woman is caught scaling the wall or shows abnormal body movements like crawling or limping or walking with a bent back, etc., the advanced AI-based cameras and software will raise an alarm and alert the security,” an official said.

Screening and background checks of the hotel staff are being carried out by the Special Branch and Security Unit and verification reports prepared during the G-20 are also being re-examined. There will be separate groups of staff for each floor and their movement will be restricted to the same floor of the hotel at all times. Police and security personnel will have at least two rooms that will serve as control rooms. State borders will remain sealed during the celebrations but malls, markets, monuments and places of worship will be under extra surveillance by strike forces with quick reaction teams, commando units and special vehicles.
