‘Took this medicine in fever, now you will suffer this punishment’, know the meaning of Dr. Vijay Mishra’s warning

Everyone in his country considers himself a doctor. Apart from this, the knowledge of Google has further divided the base. Because of this, they start treating diseases like seasonal fever on their own and 90% of the times they consume such medicines, the consequences of which they have to bear throughout their life. One such drug is Azithromycin. It is a common antibiotic. It is used in the treatment of many diseases. From cold-cold-fever to chronic disease. But due to lack of awareness, it is being misused. To understand this thing, we have located Ranchi Superspeciality Hospital Medica Medical Director and Director Critical Care of Dr. Vijay Mishra Talked to and asked whether antibiotics should be taken for seasonal cold and fever. Read the advice of Dr. Vijay Mishra-

The most important thing is that antibiotics are used only in bacterial infections. The flu that occurs in the society is viral 90 percent of the time. It can be any type of virus – influenza, haemophilus. In that this antibiotic does not work in any way. If someone takes it, then he does not get any benefit from it. Now the question is whether we antibiotic Why do you take it? If we take it because or doctors also give advice in case of cold and flu, then the reason behind it is that – Viral infection has its own character. The character is that the virus itself ends in five days, six days or seven days. It has a replication cycle, after that cycle it ends. In this way we do not need to do anything in viral infection. Only we have to do symptomatic management. i.e. when there is a fever Paracetamol Got it. Body is aching so took brufen. Drank water and rested. This way it heals itself. Means it gets cured in five to seven days.

Azithromycin in flu-viral?
Unfortunately, all these medicines are available over the counter or through prescription. Antibiotics The use of has become common. Azithromycin is very common in this. There is no use of this. If we look at flu, viral, upper respiratory infections, then the list of disadvantages is very long. There is no use. Congestion means tightness of phlegm in the chest… it is not needed in anyone.

How to know whether the infection is viral or bacterial?
The clear answer is – when the disease is seasonal. As the season is going on now. Whenever the season changes. When there is cold due to heat or rain, then due to the temperature being down, the system of our respiratory track becomes a little congested. It also cools down a bit. It becomes a very good medium for the growth of the virus. That is, the viruses which used to do nothing to us suddenly give us cold and cough due to weather change. This situation is ideal for them and they grow many times faster. Here again you have to keep in mind that if this infection is viral then you do not have to do anything. Only symptomatic medicine has to be taken.

Risk of bacterial infection in only 10 percent
So the first thing is that in 90 percent of the cases the infection is viral. Secondly, if your symptoms do not subside in two-three days i.e. you do not get relief in spite of taking paracetamol, water, rest, then there may be a bacterial infection. Otherwise, after three days you will see the symptom getting weaker. If someone is not getting relief even after five-six days and the symptoms are increasing, then the possibility of bacterial infection increases. As we said, if 90 percent of the patients of seasonal cold-cold-fever take rest, drink plenty of water and take symptomatic medicine, they get cured in three to five days. Only 10 percent of cases are such that antibiotics are needed. These 10 percent are not even common but are high risk people like extremely elderly, severe diabetic patients, kidney patients who are on dialysis, cancer patients, very young children. Such people should not wait for more than a day or two. They go to their doctor.

Viral never converts to bacterial infection
It needs to be noted here that viral never converts into bacterial infection. These 10 percent people must have already had bacterial infection, that’s why they did not get cured. Antibiotics will have to be given in such patients. The best way for this is that whenever you have cold-cold-fever in the season, then you wait for 3-4 days. Just keep in mind that the symptom is not changing rapidly. Like- today fever came 100 and tomorrow it suddenly becomes 104-105. One more thing needs to be kept in mind that fever goes very high even in viral, but it also descends as fast. This does not happen in bacterial infection. If this is not the case, then take symptomatic medicine at home. Drink plenty of water and rest. If there is no improvement in 3-4 days, then definitely go to the doctor. Don’t self-administer antibiotics even by mistake.
