New Delhi: A drop in temperature was recorded in many parts of North India amid severe cold and fog. Cold wave conditions prevailed due to snowfall in some parts of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. There is a possibility of dense fog in most of the states including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan since night. The Meteorological Department said that due to the influence of western disturbance, there may be rain and snow in some parts of north-west India next week.

When will we get relief from the harsh cold?

The Meteorological Department said in its bulletin that no significant change is expected in the minimum temperatures over northwest India during the next 48 hours. After this it will gradually increase by two to three degrees. The department said that there was dense fog and cold at some places in Bikaner, Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur divisions of Rajasthan on Friday morning. Mount Abu, the state’s only hill station, was the coldest at 0.8 degrees Celsius. Sirohi in the plains recorded a temperature of 3.8 degrees Celsius.

Know how the weather is in Kashmir

After snowfall, minimum temperatures have dropped at most places in Kashmir. Severe cold wave conditions prevail in the lower hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh and the temperature has fallen by three to five degrees Celsius in some parts. According to the local meteorological department, light rain occurred at some places. Severe cold wave conditions were observed in Una and Hamirpur, while cold wave conditions were also observed in Barthin and Kangra. Tabo was the coldest at night, with the minimum temperature recorded at minus 13.5 degrees Celsius.

Cold day situation in Punjab-Haryana

Cold day conditions were also observed in Punjab and Haryana. Pathankot was the coldest place in Punjab where the temperature was recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Amritsar was 6.9 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal; Patiala recorded 8.4 degrees Celsius, Bathinda 7 degrees Celsius, Faridkot 6.9 degrees Celsius and Gurdaspur districts recorded 6.5 degrees Celsius.

Mercury near 6 degrees in Chandigarh

The minimum temperature in the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the common capital of the two states was recorded at 6.5 degrees Celsius. Fog and cold continue in Delhi-NCR

The minimum temperature recorded in Delhi was 10 degrees Celsius. The Central Commission on Air Quality of Delhi-NCR removed the restrictions under Grape-3. IMD has predicted dry weather on Sunday. There is a fog alert during night and morning. The day is expected to be partly cloudy and the maximum temperature will be around 18 degrees Celsius.

Severe winter continues amid cold winds in many areas including the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Sirohi recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius. According to Jaipur Meteorological Centre, the weather in the state remained mainly dry in the 24 hours till Saturday morning. During this period, dense to very dense fog was recorded at many places. According to the weather centre, due to a new western disturbance becoming active on January 21-22, there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in the north-western and north-eastern parts of the state.
