New Delhi : Double attack of cold and fog is being seen in many cities including the country’s capital Delhi. Due to snowfall in the hilly areas of Kashmir and Himachal, the harshness of winter is visible in North India. The temperature continues to drop. Due to this the chill has also increased. There was light fog in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Delhi can go up to 4 degrees on Tuesday. Similar weather is expected for the next few days. Apart from this, change in weather can also be seen in UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan. There are chances of the temperature going down in these states. There is a possibility of fog and cold wave in these areas.

Now shivering cold in Delhi

AQI level has also increased in the national capital due to which Group 4 restrictions have been imposed. On Tuesday morning, AQI was recorded at 427 which falls in the ‘severe’ category. The minimum temperature was 5.9 degrees Celsius, two degrees less than the normal temperature of this season. The weather department said, winds remained generally calm in Delhi during the last 24-hour period.

While visibility during light fog in Palam was 800 meters on Monday, visibility came down to 350 meters during moderate fog in Safdarjung on Tuesday morning. Due to the possibility of easterly surface winds, moderate fog conditions are expected to persist in Delhi in the next two days.

Snowfall in hilly areas, cold increased in plain areas

Severe cold has started in many areas of UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, West Bengal. There is a possibility of heavy rain in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu from Tuesday. In view of the weather, fishermen have also been advised to avoid going into the sea.

Mercury 2.5 degrees in Kanke, Jharkhand

The minimum temperature was recorded below 10 degrees Celsius at most places in Jharkhand on Tuesday. Kanke was the coldest place in the state at 2.5 degrees Celsius. The weather office said that the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.9 degrees Celsius in Gumla, 5 degrees Celsius in Garhwa, 6.3 degrees in Lohardaga, 6.4 degrees in Chatra, 7.5 degrees in Daltonganj, 8.8 degrees in Dhanbad and 9.5 degrees in Jamshedpur. The minimum temperature in state capital Ranchi was recorded at nine degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, under the influence of a seasonal system, some parts of Jharkhand may receive light rain on December 20 and 21.

Cold wave in many places in Rajasthan

Cold wave continued in many areas of Rajasthan on Tuesday. Minimum temperatures were recorded below normal at many places in the state. According to IMD, the lowest minimum temperature recorded in Karauli last night was 1.3 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, the minimum temperature reached 2.5 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur, 3.4 degrees in Sangriya, 3.7 degrees in Sikar and 4 degrees in Churu.

Alwar recorded 4.2 degrees, Ganganagar-Dholpur 4.8-4.8 degrees, Nagaur 5.1 degrees, Baran’s Antah 5.2 degrees, Sirohi 5.3 degrees and Bhilwara-Pilani 5.4-5.4 degrees Celsius. According to the department, the weather in the state remained mainly dry in the last 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of a slight drop in the minimum temperature after the next 24 hours due to the influence of a weak western disturbance. There are also chances of dense fog in some areas.

Severe cold in Punjab and Haryana

Cold wave continues in many areas of Punjab and Haryana. Faridkot was the coldest place in Punjab, where the minimum temperature was recorded at zero degree Celsius on Tuesday. Faridkot has been experiencing severe cold since last few days, making it the coldest place in Punjab. According to the Meteorological Department report, the minimum temperature in Amritsar was recorded at 2.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in both Ludhiana and Patiala was 4.8 degrees Celsius. Pathankot recorded a minimum temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius. The temperatures in Bathinda and Gurdaspur were three degrees and 3.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

The mercury reached minus 5.3 degrees in Srinagar

With the cold wave becoming more severe in Kashmir, it is becoming extremely cold and the minimum temperature in the valley has been recorded several degrees below zero. Apart from this, ice has accumulated on the banks of many reservoirs including Dal Lake. The minimum temperature in Srinagar city was recorded at minus 5.3 degrees Celsius, down from minus 3.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, officials said. Officials also said that pipelines supplying water to many areas of the city and other places in the valley have frozen due to the cold. The Meteorological Department has predicted mainly dry weather till December 26 and light snowfall in the higher reaches of the valley on the night of December 21-22.

Cold increased in many parts of Maharashtra

Many parts of Maharashtra are in the grip of cold wave and the minimum temperature has dropped to single digits at many places in the state. The minimum temperature in Pune’s Baramati was 7.8 degrees Celsius, while Pune and Nashik districts recorded eight degrees Celsius. The mercury dropped to 8.3 degrees Celsius in Jalgaon while the minimum temperatures in Parbhani, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv were recorded at 9.4, 10 and 10.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Effect of severe cold in Odisha also

As cold wave continues in Odisha, temperatures were recorded below 10 degrees Celsius at 15 places in the state. At the same time, a temperature of one degree Celsius was recorded in Simlipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district, which was the coldest place in the state. Cold wave is predicted to continue in Odisha tomorrow also. Meteorologists said that there is cold weather in Odisha due to dry winds coming towards the state and cold north-westerly winds. Minimum temperatures were recorded below 10 degrees Celsius at 15 places in Odisha on Monday morning.
