New Delhi: The mood of the weather has started changing gradually. Mild cold has knocked in North India including Delhi-NCR. According to the Meteorological Department, a new western disturbance will affect the western Himalayan region and the plains of northwest India from December 8, 2024. Due to this, there are chances of light rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayas. Due to rain and snowfall, the cold is likely to increase in the surrounding areas including Delhi-NCR. The effect of fog can be seen in nearby states including UP-Bihar. There are chances of increasing cold in Rajasthan from next year. However, no rain or fog is forecast.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature has gradually started falling. The minimum temperature in northwest India may drop by about 2 degrees Celsius for the next three days. Later the situation may stabilize. Eastern India may also see a drop in temperature by about 2 degrees Celsius in the next two days. There will be no significant change in the minimum temperature in Central India for the next five days.

Chances of rain and fog in these states

According to IMD, there is a possibility of rain in Haryana and Punjab on December 8 and 9. From 7 to 9 December, dense fog may occur in some areas of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana from the morning itself. The sky remained clear in Delhi for the third consecutive day and the air quality was recorded in ‘moderate’ category on Friday.

Chances of fog along with cold in Delhi

There is a possibility of light fog in the national capital on Saturday. The maximum temperature can be around 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature can be around 8 degrees Celsius. Thursday was the coldest night of this season in Delhi, with the temperature falling to 8.5 degrees Celsius. The sky is expected to be clear and wind may blow from north-west at a speed of less than 8 kmph in the morning. There may also be fog and mist in the early morning.

Weather is going to change in Himachal

In Himachal Pradesh, after a prolonged post-monsoon drought, the local weather department has predicted sporadic rain and snowfall in parts of the state. An active western disturbance and strong easterly winds will cause rain on December 7. It will intensify further on December 8 and will continue till December 9. For December 8, a yellow alert has been issued in districts like Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra, Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi and Solan due to the possibility of lightning and thundershowers.

Cold wave increases in Kashmir valley

Cold increased in Kashmir on Friday and the minimum temperature here dropped by several degrees below zero. For this reason, most areas of the valley recorded the coldest night of this season so far. According to officials, the temperature this season has been recorded 1.2 to 3.2 degrees Celsius below normal.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 4.1 degrees Celsius, the lowest of this season and two degrees below the previous night. Qazigund also recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest of the season. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain generally dry till Saturday and the night temperature will drop further.

Possibility of cold wave in Rajasthan next week

Winter may take hold in Rajasthan next week and during this period, cold wave is expected at some places in the northern parts of the state, ‘Shekhawati area’. According to Jaipur Meteorological Centre, the minimum temperature is likely to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state during the coming week. Also, on December 10-12, the minimum temperature in Shekhawati area is likely to be between three to six degrees Celsius and there is a possibility of cold wave at some places. However, there is no possibility of dense fog anywhere in the state.
