Told Zelensky about the discussion with Putin… What did Jaishankar say on PM Modi’s Ukraine visit

New Delhi: PM Modi hugged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on Friday. With this, PM Modi placed his/her hand on Zelensky’s shoulder very firmly. Both the leaders talked at length about bilateral relations. Foreign Minister Dr. Jaishankar said that a large part of this conversation was about discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its solution. Dr. Jaishankar said in a press conference that there was an open and positive conversation between the two leaders. Dr. Jaishankar said that PM Modi has expressed India’s stand on this conflict on public forums many times. PM Modi had already said two years ago that the present time is not for war and recently he/she had also reiterated that the solution to the conflict will not come out of the war front, but this conflict will have to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy and both the parties should move forward together towards the solution. The PM also said that serious talks are needed between all the parties, so that such solutions can be found which have great acceptance. During this, the PM reiterated India’s commitment to help in every possible way in establishing permanent peace.

What did the Foreign Minister say about PM Modi’s Ukraine visit?

Jaishankar said that India has been playing an active role in finding a solution. During this, he/she mentioned the initiative taken by Turkey to open the Black Sea Green Corridor in the year 2022. Dr. Jaishankar said that India has always made its stand clear on the dangers of escalation of tension on public forums. In a conversation with both the Prime Ministers, PM Modi informed President Zelensky about his/her talks with the countries of the Global South. President Zelensky was told what the effects of this war could be. Along with this, the PM also informed about his/her discussion with other countries on this issue as well as his/her talks with President Putin.

What did Jaishankar say on the Global Peace Summit?

PM Modi also wanted to know the views of President Zelensky about his/her views on the ground reality and diplomatic level. Dr. Jaishankar said that the Ukrainian side had a detailed discussion about the Global Peace Summit. The Ukrainian President said that Ukraine wants a more active role from India in this summit. Dr. Jaishankar said that India participated in this summit, however, this is an initiative taken by Ukraine, with some parts of which we agree and some parts we do not. Jaishankar said that India believes that if any such initiative is taken, it should be two-way, and this is not just India’s belief, but many countries’.

Ukrainian President invited to visit India

Dr Jaishankar said that the Ukrainian President was told about those points which the Ukrainian side might not know about. During this, many ideas were presented by the Prime Minister, PM Modi also discussed his/her talks with Russia. he/she said that we have also got many points from here. There is no doubt that this is a complex problem and not only India but other countries believe that there can be many options for its solution. The Foreign Minister said that President Zelensky expressed his/her commitment to territorial integrity, sovereignty and respect for international laws. he/she also said that a part of the conversation was about the military situation and many steps to be taken regarding peace. Apart from this, the Ukrainian President was also invited by PM Modi to visit India. In response to a question related to hugging Zelensky, Jaishankar said that hugging is a part of Indian culture. This was the fourth meeting between PM and Zelensky.

Earlier on Friday, PM Modi reached Kiev. Six weeks after hugging Russian President Putin, PM Modi hugged President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on Friday. Here, both the leaders also visited the Martyrs Exhibition at the National Museum of Ukraine. The purpose of this visit was to remember and pay tribute to the memory of the children who lost their lives during the ongoing war in Russia-Ukraine. PM also posted about this on his/her X handle. PM wrote that the conflict is especially devastating for young children. My condolences are with the families of those children who have lost their lives. During this, both the leaders placed toys in the Multimedia Martyrology Children and also observed a moment of silence in honor of the children. At the same time, PM Zelensky also said that in Kiev, both the leaders honored the memory of the children who lost their lives in the Russian invasion. he/she further said that children in every country are entitled to live in safety. Before meeting the Ukrainian President, PM Modi also paid floral tribute to the Gandhi statue. Earlier, he/she reached Kyiv after a 10-hour train journey by Rail Force One.

What matters were agreed upon

Although a large part of the talks between India and Ukraine were about conflict resolution, apart from this, many other areas were also discussed between the two countries. The two countries signed 4 agreements. One of which is related to agriculture and food industry. Apart from this, an agreement was also signed on medical product regulation. The two countries have also signed an agreement on high impact community development projects in Ukraine. Along with this, an agreement related to culture was signed between the two countries from the year 2024 to 2028.
