Impact of cyclone Dana in Odisha, heavy rain in many areas

Heavy rains continue in the coastal areas of Odisha. Normal life has been disrupted due to stormy winds. According to IMD, the fury of cyclonic storm Dana can be seen off the coast of Odisha early Friday morning. During this period the wind speed here can reach up to 120 kilometers per hour.

Cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ formed over the Bay of Bengal has moved towards north-northwest at a speed of 12 km per hour during the last six hours. Due to the storm, parts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Puri of the state are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms with wind speed of 30-40 km per hour during the day. Heavy rain expected in many parts of Jharkhand

Due to the impact of cyclonic storm ‘Dana’, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in many parts of Jharkhand today. ‘Orange’ alert has been issued for today in Kolhan region (West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan and East Singhbhum districts). Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s in-charge Abhishek Anand said that apart from heavy rain, there may be thunderstorms in the area. And strong winds can also blow at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

Situation worsened due to heavy rain in West Bengal

Many districts of West Bengal received rain of moderate to heavy intensity since Thursday morning. The impact of cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ is clearly visible in the state. Stormy winds are blowing in the north-western Bay of Bengal at a speed of 90-100 kilometers per hour which can reach up to 110 kilometers per hour. There is an alert of heavy rain and strong winds in the coastal districts of Bengal since this morning.

Today, heavy to very heavy rain is expected at isolated places in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly districts of South Bengal. Railway traffic will be affected along with traffic. A large number of trains have been canceled today. More than 170 expresses and trains passing through South Eastern Railway (SER) jurisdiction have been cancelled.
