The President will be welcomed at the Parliament House

The first session of the new Lok Sabha began last Monday. The 264th session of the Rajya Sabha will begin on June 27. Murmu will reach Parliament House from Rashtrapati Bhavan with mounted guards. Prime Minister Modi and the presiding officers of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will welcome her at the Gaj Dwar of the Parliament House. From here she will be taken to the chamber of the lower house led by the traditional scepter ‘Sengol’.

According to Article 87 of the Constitution, the President is required to address a joint session of Parliament at the beginning of the session after every Lok Sabha election. The President also addresses a joint sitting of both the Houses in the first session of Parliament every year. After Murmu’s address, the ruling party will move a motion of thanks in both the Houses of Parliament which will be discussed by the members.
