Today is the first day of the Parliament session, the opposition is attacking the Protem Speaker, understand why there is a possibility of conflict

New Delhi: The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is starting from Monday. The newly elected members will be sworn in on Monday and Tuesday. The government’s priority in the first session is to elect the new Lok Sabha speaker, swearing in of members, the joint address by the President to both houses of Parliament and the motion of thanks discussion on it.Opposition unhappy with the pro tem speaker
Senior BJP leader from Odisha and seven-time consecutive MP Bhartruhari Mahtab has been appointed as the temporary Speaker (Pro tem Speaker) of the Lok Sabha. The opposition has lodged its objection to this and said that the government has ignored the claim of Congress MP K Suresh, who is an eight-time MP, for this post. There is also a possibility of conflict in both the houses of Parliament. It has started with the appointment of the Pro tem Speaker. Regarding the allegations of the opposition, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that Mahtab is a seven-time Lok Sabha member, due to which he/she is suitable for this post. he/she said that Suresh was not a member in 1998 and 2004, due to which his/her current term is the fourth consecutive in the lower house. President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath to Mahtab as the temporary Speaker of the Lok Sabha at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. After this, Mahtab will reach the Parliament House and start the proceedings of the Lok Sabha at 11 am.

The pro tem speaker will administer the oath
The pro tem speaker will administer the oath to the newly elected members. The President has appointed Kodikunnil Suresh (Congress), TR Baalu (DMK), Radha Mohan Singh and Faggan Singh Kulaste (BJP) and Sudip Bandopadhyay (Trinamool Congress) to assist Mahtab in administering the oath to the newly elected members of the Lok Sabha. Mahtab will request the Leader of the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to take the oath of membership of the House. After this, the pro tem speaker will administer the oath to the committee of chairmen appointed by the President, which will assist him/her in running the proceedings of the House till the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker on June 26.

The decision of the speaker was left to BJP
The responsibility of building a consensus on the post of Lok Sabha Speaker was given to senior BJP leader and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who has also discussed with the allies. Sources are telling that the allies have left the decision to BJP. Now BJP will decide. On June 27, President Draupadi Murmu will jointly address both the houses. During this, she can outline the priorities of the government for the next five years while mentioning the achievements of the Modi government in 10 years. After that, both the houses of Parliament will discuss the motion of thanks on the President’s address, at the end of which PM Modi will reply in both the houses.

Will the current speaker get the post?

Many names are being discussed in political circles for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. There is also a strong discussion about making the current Speaker Om Birla the Lok Sabha Speaker again. The names of D Purandeswari and Radha Mohan Singh are also in discussion for the post of Speaker. BJP’s National Vice President and former Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh, who hails from Bihar, has been elected MP for the sixth time. Purandeswari is the head of the BJP state unit in Andhra Pradesh and is the daughter of former Chief Minister and actor NT Rama Rao (NTR).

Will the opposition field a candidate?
Although the Speaker has been elected unanimously, the question is whether the opposition will also field its candidate? The opposition has not clarified anything about this yet. There has also been a tradition that if the Speaker is from the ruling party, then the post of Deputy Speaker goes to the opposition. This time, unlike 2014 and 2019, BJP does not have the magic figure of 272 on its own. The number of NDA alliance in the House is 293, while the strength of the opposition camp is 232. Now it has to be seen whether BJP gives the post of Deputy Speaker to one of its allies or does any constituent party of the opposition alliance get this post?

Why is there a possibility of conflict?
It is clear from the sharp attitude of the opposition that it is in no mood to show any leniency on all issues during this process of formal formation of Lok Sabha. The opposition alleged that the NDA government has broken the tradition from the very beginning regarding the post of Protem Speaker. The opposition is already on the offensive regarding the NEET exam. Its effect can also be seen during the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The opposition can also attack on issues like criminal law, railway accidents. The 264th session of Rajya Sabha will begin on 27 June and conclude on 3 July.
