TMC’s seating arrangement will change in Lok Sabha, the party is in talks with the Lok Sabha speaker, know the reason

New Delhi: Is Mamata Banerjee’s party going to change the seating arrangement of TMC MPs in the Lok Sabha? The discussion is something like this. Separate talks are going on between TMC and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding the seats in the Lok Sabha. TMC is a part of the ‘India’ alliance but still it is trying to create its own identity. TMC wants to establish its identity as an anti-BJP party. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has given the seating plan to the ‘India’ alliance, but TMC has not been included in it. However, Mamata Banerjee’s party is part of the opposition alliance and is expected to sit in the same group. But the talk of separate seats shows that TMC is independently negotiating for it, even if they are in the same row.

What is in TMC’s mind

Parliament experts and political sources say that the seating arrangement in the lower house is done according to coalitions and not according to parties. To have a clear division between the members of the ruling coalition and the opposition, which helps in coordination between the parties as well as in the management of the House. Sources said that ‘India’ Block is talking to the Speaker as a group. However, now it appears that the Trinamool Congress is planning something different. This is being seen as an attempt by the ruling party of Bengal to create its independent identity as an anti-BJP force. This was also evident during the speaker election and in the statements of party chief Mamata Banerjee.

Significantly, the Trinamool did not support the Congress protest against the resolution on the Emergency in the last session. However, some other regional parties also did not join the Congress, with the excuse that they were victims of the Emergency. But the TMC high command was part of the Congress in the 1970s. The TMC also participated in the Niti Aayog meeting on Saturday, saying there was no coordination with the ‘India’ faction on boycotting the meeting.

Now there is suspense on the seating plan

Although the 18th Lok Sabha has already entered its second session, the seat allocation is yet to be finalised. Veterans say that it takes time to sort out the issue as different parties have different demands from the Speaker, and the bottleneck is largely over the front row seats. Sources said that the opposition is currently pressuring the Speaker for more seats in the front row to get more allies on its side. Congress wants more seats in the front row. Apart from this, key positions are also needed for Samajwadi Party and DMK in the opposition. It is expected that Shiv Sena (UBT) can also be seated in the front.

A TMC source said that talks are still on. The seating arrangement should be finalised soon. After the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the opposition has returned to the House in greater numbers. The Congress itself has almost doubled its numbers. According to a rough estimate, the opposition is expected to cover about 40 per cent of the House.
